Opening Bell – Markets open lower; Metals shine

At 09:15 AM, Nifty opened at 9961 level, down by 17 points while Sensex opened at 31,926 level, up by 88 points.

Hindalco was top Nifty gainer trading at Rs 239.85 per share, up by 2.11% while Sun Pharma was top Nifty loser trading at Rs 481.5 per share, down by 3.77%. There were 468 advances, 882 declines and 472 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting strong negative sentiments floating in the market.

Key result for the day: Aurobindo Pharma, Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, Ajanta Pharma, Engineers India, NMDC, Mahanagar Gas, GMDC and Thomas Cook.

The rupee opened at 63.78 per US Dollar as against previous close of 63.64.

U.S. stocks ended Tuesday’s session posting modest losses. The Dow snapped its record winning streak and ended the day 33 points low at 22,085. The S&P 500 index dipped 6 points to 2,475. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 13 points to 6,370. Sentiment dampened after Trump told reporters further threats from North Korea would be “met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

Asian stocks witnessed sell-off in early trade on Wednesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 has plunge 261 points.  Hong Kong Hang Seng has edged down 126 points and China’s Shanghai Composite has dipped 9 points..
